I took apart my compressor box in order to restore my house so I can move out of it. I discovered that the pine 2x4 framing I used in it was completely eaten by termites!!! I think it may be the moisture generated by the compressor operation. Make sure you drain the water outside of the enclosure and try to use treated wood if possible. The MDF for whatever reason is untouched by termite but all untreated wood is basically swiss cheese. |

OK, so how do you keep it cool when it is running? Seems you are containing all of the heat too. And then, how do termites get into the shop? Or was this compressor outdoors? Seems to me Tai has bigger issues. If the compressor box is in the house, and termites are in it, then termites are elsewhere in the house. |

I think it probably came through the foundation or something. The house is masonry so there's no structural timber to deal with. It was in a corner of the room, and there are cracks where water sometimes would come up through it when it rains very hard. |

I don't know how Tai built his box. A simple box with ventilation holes can provide a decent degree of sound reduction especially if the box is lined with something that is sound absorbent. I have a compressor in my garage in an open-backed cabinet that cuts the noise quite a bit. Add sound absorbent material and appropriate baffles and you can get ventilation and even better sound reduction. |

Well I built it with 2x4 and lined that with MDF. The inside was lined with acoustic foam. It cuts the sound by about 10db which was pretty significant, the compressor makes like 90db when running. |
